Johnson wrote this one movement work as a Christmas present for the trumpeter John Wallace. It is conceived as a picture of dawn breaking on the Fife coast in eastern Scotland and acts as a “call” to put away the forebodings and fears of night time, and greet the reality of a new day.
David Johnson was a Scottish composer, musicologist and author. His compositions include a wide range from pieces for schoolchildren to his five operas.
