Francesco Barsanti was born in Lucca, Italy. He moved to London in 1714 and then to Edinburgh in 1735 before returning to London in 1743. In retrospect, his time in Edinburgh seems to have been his most productive and creative period. The op.3 concertos, individual and finely crafted works, were published in Edinburgh in 1742 and are dedicated to James, Earl of Wemyss.
